You’ve had that sinking feeling. We all have.
Maybe you’ve reached for a wallet … that wasn’t there. Or watched a phone slip out of your fingers—and out of reach for good.
Lost data can create that sinking feeling, too, and it’s easy to understand why. You might be only a fire or robbery away from being unable to access financial records, customer contact information, human resources data, key projects and sales materials.
While we hope it doesn’t happen to you, it’s best to understand that it can. Essential data can be gone in an instant if a disaster strikes.
There are preventive measures that can be the difference between a catastrophe and an inconvenience, and Comstar is glad to provide them.

It’s not just about the replacements, but about the peace of mind proper backup provides. It’s about knowing you can recover data in minutes or hours, compared with weeks or months—or, the worst alternative, never.
How does it work?
It starts with your server. Comstar installs and properly configures software that enables transmission of your data to our secure site. Comstar also will create a backup system on your server so you can quickly and cost-effectively recover from less catastrophic events. (For example, an employee who mistakenly deletes a key file.)
That’s on your server. What happens offsite at Comstar?
- Your data is stored securely on our servers in Waukesha, WI. Your data is not stored on an unknown server at an unknown location “in the cloud.”
- Your data is backed up frequently at chosen intervals—typically nightly or twice per day.
- Testing is constant to verify the entire service is functioning properly.
If a significant event does occur, Comstar will charge only time and materials to recover the data. That, too, is a departure from some of the national, cookie-cutter services that often make customers pay dearly to access the backed-up data.
